ETAS is all about traditions… and getting rained on every year at Batsford is rapidly becoming a real tradition, too! However, as always, the rain did not stop us from enjoying ourselves. Fun was had, arrows were shot, announcements were made, records were set, food was munched, drink was drunk (did you know Icelanders have a special drink “for getting silly drunk on the way to a horse market”?), and most of all, friends were made.
It was, once again, a truly international event: there were English and Welsh people, Swedes and Icelanders, Dutchies and Germans, and Hungarians… as well as Irish Germans, a Dutch Scotsman and an English Australian. (Did I miss anyone out??)
Anyway, if you were there you already know you had fun, so that’s not why you’ve come to the site. So… if you’re looking for the SCORES and PHOTOS, then... Update! HERE THEY ARE! SCORES now available right here, and for PHOTOS go to the Photo Gallery. If you want to say something nice about the weekend, go to the message board.
'nother UPDATE: "Little" Hans Veldhuis has written an article on Batsford 08 for the Dutch archery magazine. It's in Dutch, but hey, it's got a rather snazzy lay-out that you can look at: find it right here (PDF reader required).
AND yet another update: a word from our Prez himself! Find it right here! (PDF reader still required).
Finally, if you need reminded of some of the announcements that were made, here are the most important ones, as well as some new ones:
1 ETAS turned 5 years old on the Batsford weekend!! Congratulations ETAS and thanks to Gert and Steve for making it all possible.
2 The weekend also marked the official start of a new society for heavy bows of 71+ pounds draw weight. It is called the English Warbow Society, and they registered the Batsford flight shoot distances. Two world records were broken!! Check out the complete scores of the flight shoot HERE. More info on the Warbow Society as soon as…
3 Our Swedish friend Lennart had a great time and would like to return the favour by inviting you all to the Stora Skanska 3d Jakten (the Great Scanian 3d Hunt). We can thoroughly recommend it! Info is HERE.
4 And if you’d like to see the Hungarians again, be sure to pay a visit to the Pelican Cup, the yearly competition between English longbows and Hungarian hunting bows! Entry form with info is HERE.
5 We now have representation in Iceland! Our friends have ‘joined’ ETAS under the name of ICE TEA. Who knows, one day we may have a shoot on their island... :o)
6 Thanks to an aggressive sales strategy by yours truly, the ETAS patches are now completely sold out! They may return, they may not… news will be posted when and if there is any.
7 Last but not least, thanks to everyone for doing a great job bringing in the 3d targets on the Saturday shoot. You saved the organisers a lot of work.
(8) This has absolutely nothing to do with Batsford but is noteworthy nonetheless: The Bowyer's Bible part 4 is out! Click on this link to find it on Amazon:
